Abstract

The mosque, as the most important religious base for Muslims, is a valuable place for the spiritual growth of all segments of society. However, a significant number of jurists, citing narrations, have issued fatwas regarding the disapproval of children's presence in the mosque; conversely, some other jurists have considered this disapproval applicable only to children with specific conditions. Some have even advocated for the recommendation or priority of bringing children to the mosque. Has the legislator prohibited believers from bringing children to the mosque, or does he regard their entry as equivalent to that of others? Given that the lack of proper analysis and response to such questions has caused issues in the education of children in mosques and may serve as a pretext for their non-attendance, this study examines the ambiguities by reviewing narrations and analyzing the views and evidence of esteemed jurists, as well as the practical conduct of the Immaculate Ones (peace be upon them), using a descriptive-analytical method and library resources. Some indications and evidence suggest that the narrations refer only to children who are not trustworthy in the mosque. Furthermore, there are no reports or signs in the practical conduct that indicate disapproval of bringing children to the mosque; on the contrary, historical reports oppose this view. Therefore, these reports do not reconcile with the weak-sourced prohibitive narrations, and the recommendation or permissibility of bringing children to the mosque takes precedence over disapproval.
